Selection Panel

 

The Selection Panel is comprised of respected international development experts, assisted by co-opted experts as required. Members of the Panel are listed below. The Selection Panel expertise and experience includes qualifications and experience in international integrated development across several disciples supporting agriculture, cultural respect, community development, education, engineering, food, governance, legislation, health, research and the social sciences.

 

Elisabeth AduElizabeth Adu, from Ghana, is an international development lawyer and practitioner with over 30 years of experience. She retired from the World Bank having been responsible for the development effectiveness of the projects in the region as Director of Operations Services for the Latin America and the Caribbean, after having been Deputy General Counsel of Operations. She has also been Chief Counsel for the Africa Region and Legal Adviser to the Africa Region Vice President of the World Bank. Her career in various legal roles related to international development has built on her initial LLB from the University of Ghana, and an LLM from Temple University.

 

Elisabeth KroghElsebeth Krogh from Denmark, is CEO of the Centre for Culture and Development in Copenhagen. Currently serving on the Board of Save the Children Denmark, the Danish Institute for Parties and Democracy, and Somali Fair Fishing, she has also served on Danida’s Council for International Development Cooperation, as Chair of MS Action Aid, on the Standing Committee of the Lutheran World Federation, and on the Danida Board. She was Ambassador for Women of Influence 2009-11. Her experience spans more than 40 countries in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Eastern Europe and Latin America, and includes extended periods in South Asia and Southern Africa. Recognized as a leader in international development, her global career has built on her post-graduate qualifications in Economic Geography and an Executive MBA.

 

Lindsay FalveyLindsay Falvey, from Australia, is Chair of the Board of the International Livestock Research Institute and a Director of Hassad Australia and the Institute for International Development. He is a special advisor to universities in Thailand and continues in an emeritus status at the University of Melbourne where he was previously Chair of Agriculture and Dean of Land and Food. A recipient of the Centenary Award of Australia, a Fellow of the Academy of Technological Sciences and a Life member of Clare Hall, University of Cambridge, Prof. Falvey has managed a large international development company active across 60 countries and authored several books on integrated aspects of development. Dr Falvey has kindly accepted the role of Chair of the Selection Panel.

 

Carlos Perez del CastilloCarlos Pérez del Castillo, from Uruguay, is currently the Chairman of the Consortium of the CGIAR international agricultural research centres and Vice-Chairman of the International Food and Agriculture Trade Policy Council. He was a member of the Steering Committee of the High Level Panel of Experts on Food Security and Nutrition, chaired the most important Councils of the WTO, including its General Council, was the international independent evaluator on Governance of the Global Environmental Facility as well as the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, and was Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay and Permanent Secretary of the Latin American Economic System (SELA). He is Chairman of the WTO dispute on measures affecting trade in large civil aircraft (Boeing-Airbus), and a small cattle farmer. He has received the highest decorations from the Governments of Brazil, Chile, France and Venezuela.

 

Mechai ViravaidyaMechai Viravaidya, from Thailand, is globally known for his highly successful family planning, HIV/AIDS prevention, poverty reduction and innovative rural education and integrated development programs. Sustainably supporting and promoting these NGO programs through related commercial businesses, his ground-breaking development approach is a model of integrated development. He has also contributed as a parliamentarian, chairman of the state bank, petroleum and telecom enterprises, and is currently assisting the national education reform process. In addition to several honorary doctorates he has received such awards as the United Nations Gold Peace Medal, Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship, Ramon Magsaysay Award, United Nations Population Award, Bill and Melinda Gates Award and is the UNAIDS Ambassador.
